Book Marketing Cornerstones

with Indie Publishing Expert Jane Friedman

This workshop with Hot Sheet publisher Jane Friedman will focus on effective strategies for publishing websites & email newsletters.

Whether your website is one day old or ten years old, you want to make sure the time and energy that you’ve put into your site will pay off with more readers, more sales, and more opportunities for your books. You'll learn how your website and email newsletter (and a bit of social media) can work in concert with each other to better reach and engage readers—and you'll also learn about common website and email marketing mistakes.

This workshop runs Jan. 13 from 12-2 pm, US Eastern Time. You will receive a Zoom link with your completed payment. This link is for your use only and is not to be shared.

Why websites? Your website serves as an online home for everything that you do, whether in real life or in the digital realm. You fully own and control it, tell your own story, and connect directly with the media, readers or influencers. It’s hard to overstate its importance over the long term. Consider it the cost of doing business in the digital era, a necessary business card and networking tool. In some cases, it can also be a creative outlet and community area.

Why email? Email marketing is the No. 1 overlooked means of reader engagement for authors and publishers. Being able to directly reach your readers, or most avid fans, is a powerful capability that every author should have. While social media is usually touted as a primary way to build audience, when it comes to online marketing, email is still the most successful and profitable means of interacting with your readership.

This workshop will cover:
  • 5 elements that belong on every publishing website homepage
  • The most common problems with author and publisher websites (often easily and immediately fixable)
  • The parts of SEO (search engine optimization) that matter most to authors and publishers, and how to adjust your site accordingly
  • How and why to start building an email list today even if you think you have nothing to say
  • What types of content belong in your newsletter and how to determine the right frequency for you
  • The difference between newsletter content and blogging (sometimes there is little or no difference, and that's OK)
  • How to best sell over the long term and make both your website and email newsletter list pay off

You'll receive a Zoom link via email after registration and payment. Click here to join & collaborate with IPNE members to "make better books and sell more of them!"
